WRAS certification testing services
What is WRAS?
The Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) certification in the UK is tested according to the British standard BS6920. The testing scope includes all materials that come into contact with drinking water, such as plumbing pipes, faucets, valve components, rubber products, plastics, and materials that may be used to manufacture related equipment. All products tested by the center must comply with the British BS6920 or BS5750ART standards to ensure that the taste and color of the drinking water will not change, will not cause microbial growth, toxic metals will not be refracted, and will not contain or refract other substances that are harmful to health. Material testing must be certified, otherwise mechanical testing cannot be carried out in the overall product.
If non-metallic materials meet the requirements of BS6920:2000 (assessing the suitability of non-metallic products for contact with water), they can be certified by WRAS.
Products that come into contact with water in the UK must comply with the relevant provisions of the Water Supply Regulations for England and Wales 1999, the Scottish Water Act 2004, and the Northern Ireland Water Regulations 2004. The WRAS Certified Water Regulations Advisory Scheme, managed by WRAS Ltd, can fully and conveniently meet these requirements. Products certified by WRAS ensure that local governments and users are confident that they will not cause excessive consumption, abuse, improper use, or pollution of drinking water. Therefore, WRAS certification has become a passport for aquatic product manufacturers to enter the UK.
【 Certification Classification 】
WRAS certification includes material certification and product certification.
1. Material certification
The scope of material certification includes: shower pipes, braided pipes, connecting pipes, and various inner pipes of connecting pipes that come into contact with water; Various materials such as PVC, POM, EPDM, NBR, etc; Various sealing components such as gaskets, O-rings, etc;
Non metallic materials must comply with the relevant requirements of BS6920 standard, and passing this test will result in obtaining a WRAS certificate.
The experiment evaluates the impact of materials on water quality from the following five aspects. The approximate testing content of BS6920 is as follows:
A. The odor and taste of the water in contact with the material will not change
B. The appearance of water in contact with the material will not change
C. Will not lead to the growth and proliferation of aquatic microorganisms
D. Toxic metals will not precipitate
E. Will not contain or release substances that affect public health
Products such as plumbing pipes and faucets must undergo mechanical and material testing, and certain components must be certified through material testing in the WRc NSF laboratory in the UK, otherwise physical experiments cannot be conducted on the entire product. Companies listed through certification undergo material audits and testing by WRC-NSF every five years.
2. Product certification
To obtain WRAS certification, the product needs to meet the following two requirements:
----Non metallic materials in contact with water must comply with BS 6920 standard;
----This product must undergo relevant mechanical performance testing as required by WRAS certification.
【Certification Process and Cycle 】
1. Material certification
Provide product formula. Submit relevant applications. According to BS6920, passing the test will result in obtaining the WRAS certificate, which usually takes about 3 months.
Product testing is conducted according to British standard specifications based on product types. WRc NSF tests water pipe fittings to demonstrate compliance with relevant international standards, which are recognized and accredited by the water supply industry.
These products include faucets and mixers, pipes, sanitary ware, water meters, flow meters and buckets, vehicle cleaning equipment, etc.
Test the accessories to ensure that they will not: damage (including leaks), misuse, improper use, or contaminate the water supply.
Each test can last for five years.
2. Product certification
Submit the application, conduct application documents and component qualification review, then conduct mechanical performance testing. After the testing is completed, submit all the materials to the certification body and participate in the 6-8 weekly certification review meeting. If the review is passed, the certification will be obtained.
WRAS certification is an essential license to access the UK market. In foreign countries, one of the necessary procedures for companies that provide products that come into contact with drinking water is to check whether there is certification that meets relevant standards. WRAS accreditation is the most convincing proof, and products without WRAS certification will not be adopted. All water equipment, plastic pipes, and utensils that have passed the relevant level appraisal will receive a unique reference number and a certificate will be issued to prove that they have passed the appraisal; The relevant numbers will be included in the Water Fitting and Materials Directory. This catalog is published in April and October every year.
We can provide assistance to domestic manufacturers who need certification, including providing certification standards, explaining the process, quoting relevant fees, providing guidance on test samples, contacting laboratories, providing 5-year certificate follow-up application services, as well as information on how to apply for material experiments, prepare samples, determine sample specifications, types, etc.
It has been proven that for most product manufacturers, their sales profits will steadily increase after their products obtain WRAS certification. Having a WRAS certificate is equivalent to giving your customers a guarantee of quality and confidence.
NormalTCI has the ability to detect with complete British testing standards. The products covered by these standards include inlet valves, drain valves, faucets, thermostatic valves, showerheads, drains, hoses, various ball valves, check valves, flow limiters, etc. After passing the testing, the product can apply for WRAS certification in the UK based on the testing report.
